1863 (29 June) entire letter from Penang to Calcutta, marked "Via Rangoon", bearing India 1a. Receipt stamp with pen-cancel and showing framed "penang/ship letter/bg" datestamp alongside with arrival c.d.s. on reverse; the entire with small tear at top just impinging on datestamp and slightly soiled. This shows that the attempt to prepay with a fiscal stamp was not accepted. Photo
