Edward the Confessor (1042-66), Penny, 1.21g, Small flan type, York, Leofnoth, diademed bust left, rev. +leofnoÐ on eo around voided short cross, annulet in second quarter (SCBI 29 Merseyside, No 744 - same dies; N.818; S.1175), small metal flaw on king's neck and scratch by arm of short cross on reverse, otherwise a superb specimen with a most pleasing tone, the surfaces fresh on this, as struck and thus extremely fine
