Constantine the Great (AD 307-337), AE Nummus (22.9 x 22.7 mm 4.25 g 7h), London mint, CONSTANTINVS AVG, helmeted, cuirassed bust of Constantine left, spear over right shoulder and shield on left, rev. COMITI AVG NN, Sol standing left, star in right field, PLN in exergue (RIC 184; Huvelin 60-60a; CT 7.03.048 (this coin), good very fine.

The martial busts of the right star series allude to Constantine's forthcoming military campaign against Maxentius. The helmeted types without the laurel wreath are quite rare. This coin is illustrated on the CT plate.
