Aethelstan (924-39), Penny, 1.32g, Circumscription cross type, York mint signed, Regnald, +eÐelstan rex to brit, cross pattée within inner circle, rev. regnald nom evropic, l of moneyer's name an inverted t, cross pattée within inner circle (Blunt BNJ Vol.XLII, No-; CTCE p.305; N.672; S.1093), broken in two with some of the coin lost to the soil, otherwise what would have been a very tidy piece, well centred and evenly struck, extremely fine and a particularly rare and interesting variety with mint signature as EVROPIC

The smaller of these two fragments was originally recorded by the British Museum as being present in batch two and was recorded as a separate coin. Upon recognising the unusual reverse legend the cataloguer was able to bring together these two pieces as one coin. They are thus presented here as one lot.
