Miss Mary Forbes Rawle served during the Great War on the Western Front, September 1914-June 1915; as Searcher and Stenographer her job was to search for and record the details of missing personnel (those killed in action, missing, wounded, hospitalised or taken prisoner of war) from the British Expeditionary Force; she re-engaged for service with the A.T.S. during the Second War.
