Stephens, Vice Prest. patriotic cover (CSA Catalog-Dietz #F7-1A) to St. Paul, Minnesota, three strikes of "Paid 3" in circle h.s. on the reverse and ms. "Mail Direct" on the front, four of the stars are shaded by hand, extremely fine; a remarkable usage from South to North prior to termination of postal relations and while U.S. postal regulations and rates applied; a rare and well documented cover being illustrated on page 444 of the new CSA Catalog (Dietz);
