Japanese Occupation of Malaya
Power of Attorney originally executed in Madras and witnessed, registered in Malacca 14 June 1932 of which this is a certified copy. The document was required to be used as a power of attorney in other Malay States each of which required registration. Some of these were pre-war and others during the occupation. The fee for registration was three dollars and remained the same during the occupation. Re-registration in Malacca was 50c. although on 19 December 1940 a penalty for late registration was charged a further 50c. The document bears Federated Malay States $1 and $2 (21.11.32), Johore $1 and $3 (23.2.38), Malacca 50c. (2; 17.12.40), Johore Dai Nippon $1 on 1c. and $2 (9.9.44) and boxed h.s. on Kedah (3; applied Selangor 28.7.45). A magnificent document, much travelled and full of character. Photo
