Black's Diggings
1867 (30 Dec.) envelope to Scotland, bearing 1864-67 1d. scarlet-vermilion (6) with each pair cancelled "044", London Paid c.d.s. (1.3) below, the reverse with Dunedin (31.12) and arrival (2.3) c.d.s.; the envelope somewhat soiled, one 1d. stamp at left torn away and replaced (slightly out of place), the 1d. stamp at right originally folded over prior to being cancelled, nevertheless a remarkable franking from this scarce office. Note: Black's Diggings goldfield was located by the banks of the Manuherikia River. The gold mine at this location was referred to as "Blacks No. 1". A Post Office opened in November 1864
