Mail via Panama
1868 (Mar.) envelope from Panama on the Ruahine to Dunedin, bearing G.B. 1862-64 4d. vermilion (largely removed as invalid) and 1864-67 1d. carmine-vermilion (6) each cancelled by manuscript "MP" (Marine Post Office), dated "Mar 1868" on inside of flap and "Posted at Panama" on flap alongside large part Dunedin arrival c.d.s. (29.5); portion where G.B. stamp has been torn away now repaired, and a couple of other small faults, nevertheless a very rare and unusual cover, and the only recorded southbound example by the Panama and New Zealand Royal Mail Steam Co.
