1900 (18 May) unstamped "Veld Dienst" envelope to P.O. Hibernia showing a superb strike of the "johannesburg commando/veldpostmeester/G.F. Fleischer." "cogwheel" oval cachet in violet, Volkrust (18.5) and Johannesburg (19.5) c.d.s. on reverse, some foxing otherwise fine, and (25 May) damaged "Velddienst" envelope to Jeppesdorp with a fine strike of the cachet in blue-violet. A rare handstamp with only eight examples recorded, and an interesting pair illustrating the first and last dates known. Photo
