1868 (17 Feb,) blue envelope to Shanghai with printed "Via Marseilles" and manuscript "per French Mail", bearing Q.V. 1/- and 4c. tied by London District "48" obliterator of Shoreditch with "pd" in oval and English Mail Calais transit c.d.s., the reverse with square London despatch and "shanghai/bau francais" c.d.s. (5.4); with the original enclosure from Smith Elder & Co concerning the sale of a flute for £8 to Keith, Prowse & Co. An unusual and interesting cover, very unusual to be sent by French packet instead of the usual British packet. Photo
