1898 (Nov.) opened-out envelope to New York bearing, on the address side, 50p. uncancelled but with small blue crayon circles at each corner, indicating that the stamp is not valid for postage; the reverse with Japan Koban 10s. tied by "ninsen/i.j.p.o." c.d.s. (10.11). Yokohama (28.11) and San Francisco (16.12) transit plus Winfield arrival (21.12). A fine and important cover. Photo
