West Kent Light Infantry Militia
A very fine and rare example, the silver plated back plate with gilt and silver mounts, comprising a gilt elongated star overlaid with a similar but smaller silver star, this in turn is mounted with a gilt crowned strap 'West Kent Light Infantry', in the centre on a domed ground of red enamel the White Horse of Kent, across the base of the strap a silver scroll 'Invicta', below the strap the precedence numerals '37' within the curve of a gilt bugle horn, c.1853-1855, excellent condition
The West Kent Militia drew the 37th precedence place in the Royal Ballot of 1833; the regiment was converted to Light Infantry status in 1853.
