Auction: 13003 - Orders, Decorations, Campaign Medals and Militaria
Lot: 223
76th Regiment of Foot
A scarce and very fine example the gilt back plate with one silver mount, being the crown over laurel and palm sprays, below the crown the honours 'Hindoostan' and 'Nive', in the centre an elephant with howdah cloth over the numerals 'LXXVI', below the leaf sprays a scroll 'Peninsula', c.1830-1848 (Parkyn 280), the hook fasteners with slight distortion otherwise very fine condition
The use of a single piece mount is a major departure from the norm and possibly suggests usage by a very Senior NCO.
