Cayman Islands The John Byl Collection 1908 (May-Oct.) Manuscript Provisionals During May and October 1908 supplies of the 1/2d. and 1d. stamps became exhausted. Covers were franked in manuscript and initialled by the Postmistress, Miss G.A. Parsons, or by the Postmaster, W.G. McCausland, who succeeded her in June 1908. The following section offers the most comprehensive group of these provisionals ever to appear at auction Endorsements in use from 12 May to 1 June Type 1: 1908 (18 May) envelope to Mr. Yorke-Slater (Acting Commissioner of the Caymans from June 1906 until March 1907), Chapelton, Jamaica, with manuscript "Postage/Paid/G.A.P." between brackets in three lines (normally written in two lines and the only example recorded thus) with Georgetown c.d.s. and Chapelton squared-circle d.s. (28.5) alongside, part Kingston c.d.s. (27.5) on reverse; the envelope with small faults though of generally fine appearance. Very rare. S.G. MP1 var., £6,000.
