Cayman Islands The John Byl Collection 1907 (Nov.) Georgetown Provisionals 1907 (10 Dec.) envelope, with printed address, to San Francisco, bearing "1d" on 5/- green and salmon horizontal pair in combination with 1907 1/2d. green, twice cancelled with Georgetown c.d.s., Kingston transit c.d.s. (19.12) on reverse; the envelope with vertical crease at centre, clear of the adhesives. A very rare first day usage of the send printing of the 1d. on 5/- value and the only commercially used cover recorded with a mixed surcharge and definitive franking. Photo Estimate £ 5,000-6,000 Note: The stock from the first printing of the 1d. on 5/- lasted until 10 December, when a sudden demand for 1d. stamps for receipt purposes made a second printing necessary. Three sheets (360 stamps) of the 5/- were surcharged 1d. and issued on that day. These sufficed until the arrival of the new "Postage & Revenue" series arrived on 27 December provenance: R.A.G.
