Prince Edward Island Early Letters and Handstamps Mail from Great Britain 1792 (3 Mar.) entire letter ex the "Douglas" correspondence from Hamilton addressed to "Island of St John, Gulf of St. Lawrence" via an agent in Halifax, marked "Pd 1/7" in red ink and "9", showing red London double-ring "paid" d.s. and, on reverse, very fine "halifax/n: scotia" split double-ring d.s. of 15 May 1892 (crossed by light horizontal filing crease). A rare and early incoming cover. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000 Note: This is the earliest example of the 9 Cy. rate being applied to mail between Halifax and the Island. The Province was not named Prince Edward Island until 1799.
