Great Britain Postal History A Selection of Poignant Entires and Letters 1851 (6 Jan.) entire letter from Castletown, Isle of Man, to Carlisle, bearing a previously used 1d. red affixed by sealing wax and thread, two "407" numeral cancellations, dated markings on reverse, fine. An interesting entire, from Richard Greetham and addressed to himself but additionally endorsed "for S.W." (his wife Sarah). From the contents it appears that Greetham is in hiding from his debtors on the Isle of Man. A rare example of successful postal fraud as well as a novel and intricate method of affixing an adhesive to a cover. Photo Estimate £ 2,000-2,500
