Stamp Boxes and Related Items English Silver Boxes 1869 London, "macneill´s patent stamp applicator", by Robert Hennel, small square design, the sides with engraved scroll work and the top showing a fine embossed profile of Queen Victoria and "patent"; fine and very rare. Photo Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 Note: it is not known whether these cases were made for retail, or as a private commission for Sir John Macneill to give to friends, but it would appear to be the earliest design for a silver stamp box and pre dates the production of silver cases by some ten years
