                        Gold Coast  The Ashanti Wars  The 1895 - 1896 Expedition  The Expedition lasted from 11th November 1895 to 8th February 1896. It involved approximately 3000 troops and took place under the military command of. Col. Sir Francis Scott. The Expedition marched to Kumasi without a shot being fired; kidnapped King Prempeh and retired back to Accra without any fighting. A garrison was instituted at Kumasi.  1895 unstamped envelope from Capt. L.G. Drummond of the Scotts Guards serving in the Special Service Corps to London, headed "Ashanti Expedition" showing "paquebot/liverpool" double-ring d.s. (30.1), handstruck "d1" (wrong rate, should have been "2 1/2d" for an Officer´s letter) and, on reverse, London arrival c.d.s. (31.1); the envelope with large tear through face panel.
