x Transvaal 1878 (12 Oct.) envelope from Chrissiesmeer via Natal to Scotland, bearing 1877-79 imperforate 1d. red on orange, 3d. mauve on buff and 6d. blue on blue each cancelled "24" and showing faint Marthinus Wesselstroom c.d.s. (date unclear) alongside, the reverse showing Durban (12/10) and arrival (18/11) c.d.s.. A colourful and very rare franking. Holcombe Certificate (1990). S.G. 116, 118, 121. Photo Estimate £ 7,000-9,000 Note: The cover was carried from Durban aboard the "Asiatic" and, from Cape Town aboard the "Walmer Castle", which sailed on the 22nd. October and offloaded the mails on the 15th. November. The half-ounce letter rate to the U.K. via Natal at this time was 4d. (to or via Natal) plus 6d. (to the U.K.). With effect from 1st.
