1840 One Penny Black Plate XI Unused Registered 27th January 1841 (in red) Earliest known postal use 4th February 1841 Plate destroyed 15th January 1842 Shades are typically greyish black as well as black EA-EB horizontal marginal pair from the left of the sheet in the scarce black shade, showing a portion of the marginal inscription, "...ment.", the other margins are large to very large all round, unused with large part original gum; light diagonal crease at left, mostly confined to the margin.
