France Postal History 1812 - The Grand Armée Campaign in Russia 1812 (27 Aug.) entire letter headed "Postea 8 lieus en avant de Dorogobouy et 32 de Smolensk ce 27 août", sent by Capitaine De Castelane to his father in Paris and re-addressed to Clermont, with manuscript "6" to pay the additional postage, a long (4 page) letter detailing skirmishes encountered during the Army´s advance to Moscow.
