Afghanistan First Anglo-Afghan War 1838-1842 1842 (7 Oct.) entire letter addressed to "Major Conslade Proceeding with H.M. 2nd European Regt. to Cabool", endorsed "Paid" and on reverse red framed "suttyghur/paid" with date (14.10) inserted by hand; slight stains but fine and exceptionally rare incoming mail during the so-called "Phase of Retribution" (March-October 1842) following the massacre of the Garrison at Kabul in January 1842.
