United States Loan Office April 1793. Connecticut. $248.12. No.77. Issued to the First Society in East Windsor. Ram´s Head above eagle. Printed by Francis Bailey. Signed by William Imlay as Commissioner. Cut cancelled, VF.Very similar to the Loan-Office certifcate printed by Bailey that were the first government securities to be traded on the New York Stock Exchange when it was founded in 1792. The "Imlay" bonds were issued to cover state debt in excess of the authorized $1.6 million assigned by the State to be vaild certifcates of the state debt. Only 150 were issued, and many of the survivors are in poor condition. Estimate US$ 200-400
