James protested against the outcome of the Treaty and this is one of several medals which were struck to draw attention to the circumstances of the Stuart family at this time. Its´ fortunes are shown on this medal as a ship that is distressed but not destroyed and the bust of the young prince James extends the claims of the family beyond James II himself. The obverse die of this medal is in the British Museum.
