New Aspen Silver Mines Ltd., ´A´ debenture for £25, 189(8), no.857, ornate border, black, good very fine. Estimate £ 50 Aspen, the new name for Ute City, in 1880 was a player in the great Colorado silver boom of the 1880´s. It soon surpassed the better known town of Leadville in 1891 and 1892 as the State´s largest producer. The panic of 1893 put an end to the high silver price and shortly afterwards many of the mines had closed. The town became a tourist destination from the 1930´s onwards and is now a very up-market ski resort. This English company was formed after the panic as a reorganisation of a previous company but failed soon after.
