x Consistoire Israélite, 5% Loan, 1862, for the building of two temples, bond for 300 francs, issued by Rothschilds in Paris, ornate border, blue and black, with coupons, several handstamps relating to repayments up to 1904, fine to very fine and scarce; together with Nederlandsch Israelietische Gemeente te Hilversum, interest bearing share of 25 gulden, undated but circa 1917, red and black, tape repair and small stain, fine. (2) Estimate £ 60 Many Jewish communities in Europe formed non-profit companies to finance and maintain their synagogues and cemeteries. The first was for building two large synagogues in Paris and the second for the small town of Hilversum in the Netherlands where there had been a Jewish community since the 18th century.
