Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (John Leslie Thomson), extremely fine, with Buckingham Palace enclosure, in envelope of issue Great War Memorial Scroll (2Lt. H.R.S. Clarke 11 Gordon Highlanders), extremely fine, in scroll tube of issue, named to The Rev. W.J. Clarke, The Rectory, Kelso, Scotland (2) Estimate £ 60-80 Lieutenant John Leslie Thomson, served during the Great War with the 21st Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment); died 19.7.1916, and is buried in Ridge Wood Military Cemetery, Belgium. Second Lieutenant Hugh Reginald Stanley Clarke, born August 1891; the son of The Reverend Walter Clarke, of Kelso, Roxburghshire; served before the Great War with the Royal Malay States Volunteer Rifles whilst employed as a rubber planter; enlisted as Private 1571, 16th (Public Schools) Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, 5.2.1915; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, 11th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, 19.5.1915; served with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front from 19.7.1916; killed in action 18.8.1916, on which date the Battalion attacked the Maltz Horn Farm and took the Hardecourt Road whilst suffering 261 casualties, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
