Spink Has Exceptional Sales for Singapore 2015
SPINK SINGAPORE | Spink is proud to announce that we are the key sponsor and official auctioneer of the International World Stamp Exhibition to be held in Singapore on the 14th - 19th August 2015. During this incredible event we will be holding a series of prestigious sales offering items of the highest quality and calibre.
Saturday the 15th of August will be an exciting start for the Spink events; all of the lots for auction will be available for viewing throughout the day, and the evening will see the launch of the long-awaited Frank Goon Collection of Banknotes of British Malaya (2nd edition). Published by Spink, the 2nd edition is a masterpiece and a testament to a lifetime of banknote collecting. This is the first volume in the Spink 'Connoisseur' Series, a must for any collector of the Straits Settlement area and a seminal reference piece.
Alongside the book launch on the 15th August, we will be holding an exceptional Evening of Selected Rums, Fine Wines, Whiskies and Cognacs. Spink is always very excited by our whisky and wine sales, usually held in Hong Kong where the market is growing and always has a buzzing air of fun and excitement about the auction room. This sale promises to be a breath taking experience for all.
The 16th August is jammed full of exiting Spink events. The morning session will see the first part of the spectacular sale: The 'Sentosa' Collection of Straits Settlements, Malayan States, Labuan, North Borneo and Sarawak. A sale set to break records and impress the philatelic world. Not since the days when Robson Lowe sold Dr. Wood's Collections of Malaya and Borneo in 1964 and 1965 has such an outstanding collection come onto the open market. The "Sentosa" collection abounds in essays, proofs, specimens, stamps with many multiples and selected covers. Each Colony and State is well represented by a number of rarities, many of which have not been on the market for 40 or 50 years. This sale comprises some 1600 lots and will continue through to Monday 17th August. The afternoon session will see the numismatic sale: 'Banknotes, Bonds & Shares, Coins and Medals of South East Asia'. Top quality material is becoming harder and harder to source and the cost of acquiring this material is rising. Despite this, Spink have put together a 500 lot sale of banknotes, with some bonds and share certificates, coins and medals to add additional flavour. Including lot 606, a legendary Collar Chain of the Order of the Orchid Blossom, estimated to make between S$160,000 - 200,000.
The evening of the 16th August will include Spink's inaugural Antique Map auction. Spink have been excited and thrilled by the maps we've described and catalogued for the sale. Their beauty and detail is not only artistically impressive, but the historical value is also astounding.
Our final sale takes place on Tuesday 18th August, the 'Stamps and Covers of South East Asia' contains a vast selection of philatelic items from many different countries. With something for everyone, this is a sale worthy of closing the series of Spink sales throughout the exhibition.
The sales will be held in the Heliconia Ballroom 3405-3406, Level 3, Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Ave, Singapore 018956. Specialists will be on hand throughout the day to discuss and advise on collecting or growing your existing collection.
