Auction: SW1020 - Maritime Mail of Spanish Colonies in America
Lot: 255
UruguayOutgoing Mail1804, Dec. 8. Entire letter from Montevideo with full contents including the bill of lading of goods sent to the addressee, carried via Buenos Aires by the German frigate "Perla" to Corunna (Spain), rated at "6" reales and crossed out, as it seems not to match the corresponding weight for that fee, struck on dispatch by "Montevideo" straight-line in red (second type). An exceptional entire letter also including a bill of lading of the ship which carried this correspondence, this being an extraordinary and so far unique feature in transatlantic mail of this early period; its desirability is further enhanced by the fact of being carried by the privileged Hamburg frigate "Perla".
