Auction: SW1020 - Maritime Mail of Spanish Colonies in America
Lot: 214
PeruOutgoing Mail1810 circa. Cover front from an unidentifiable locality in Peru to Madrid, endorsed "Pr. la Fagta. Suplicada" ("Suplicada" frigate), graced by a magnificent bold strike of "Perú" straight-line postmark applied on receipt. This is the only item recorded exhibiting the "Perú" of Cádiz used during the colonial period, of great significance and desirability as a "Peru" handstamp used in Spain. Before the discovery of this item, this postmark was believed to have been used in mid 1800's, and not during the colonial dominion.
