MexicoOutgoing Mail1833, Nov. 19. Entire letter from Mérida to Charleston (United States), correctly charged with "4" reales marking as per single rate, carried by the Spanish mails with "Yndias" straight-line handstamp (P.E. 5) struck in Mexico. The "Yndias" marking denoted mail originating from Spanish American colonies on correspondences sent to Spain; consequently, in this instance was erroneously and exceptionally struck. Closed tear on front of no significance for this important item. One of just two covers recorded exhibiting the "Yndias" postmark on mail addressed to the United States.
