Lot: 112
CubaIncoming Mail1829, March 16. Entire letter from Barcelona to Havana, handwritten on reverse "Encaminada por S.S. Pérez Hernd. y Ca." denoting the involvement of a forwarding agent in the carriage of this letter, following application of "España" & "4" notations in manuscript on front at Havana, both being contemporaneously applied by the same postal clerk before postmarking the front with matching "España" straight-line handstamp in black (P.E. 28), with the 4 reales, to be collected from the recipient, paying the single rate. In Spain and its Colonies, letters forwarded by private agents are very scarce, as this practice was forbidden and fined.
