ColombiaStampless MailIndependent Republic Period1831, Jan. 24. Entire letter with a further letter inside, from Santa Marta to Cartagena, endorsed "Correo Privado" and "favorecida por el Sr. José Martínez". The contents, being a duplicate, complain about not having had answers to previous letters, this being probably the reason for which the sender used private mail to consign his correspondence to the addressee (this practice was strictly forbidden during the Spanish rule). To our knowledge, this is the only cover known with the "Correo Privado" (private mail) endorsement. Ex Santa María.
