Colombian AirmailsSociedad Colombo-Alemana de Transportes Aéreos (SCADTA)Consular MailCuraçao. 1927, March 17. Envelope from the Brazilian Consulate in Willemstad addressed to a Consul of Brazil at Barranquilla, franked by Curaçao 15c. combined with Scadta 1923-28 30c., each cleanly tied by datestamps on departure. Endorsement confirming carriage by the "Pacífico" seaplane, which covered the Panama-Barranquilla-Curaçao route; on 18 March 1927, the "Pacífico" took off from Curaçao to complete its flight to Barranquilla, but the plane suffered damages following a forced landing at San Román Cape (Paraguana Peninsula, Venezuela), and in the night of that day the plane was completely destroyed by the sea; the pilot was able to save the wings, engines and mails before the destruction of the plane. Neatly struck on reverse with datestamp of Barranquilla, where the saved crash mail arrived on 2 April. A fascinating and very rare Consular-Mail usage; only five examples have survived from this plane crash. Scott C42. Photo
