Latin AmericaBrazil1844, 60 r. black, type II, late impression, a magnificent large margined vertical strip of six, just touched at bottom, applied on judicial document delivered through the post from João da Barra to the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, dated July 1st, 1851. The franking paid the special postal rate for a judicial document weighing 48 ''oitavas'' (8 ''oitavas'' per each 60 réis). As described inside, the total costs of the legal proceedings amounted to 3$298 réis, out of which 360 réis were related to postal expenses. Judicial case dossiers could neither be processed nor distributed to the litigants without payment of the mail's postage. To our knowledge, a unique multiple on document carried through the mails.
