Lot: 189

1847, 5c. blue "Lady Mc Leod", exhibiting rich deep color and graced by a magnificent freshness, with clear margins on two sides, the other being outstandingly large, unused without gum. The steamship "Lady Mc Leod" served between Port of Spain and San Fernando carrying mail, passengers and freight; in April 1847, David Bryce, the owner of the steamship, made a stamp available so that anyone (or 'any passengers'), who wished to send letters, were able to prepay the charge for carrying post on board the ship. An extremely rare and famous stamp of the British Empire, of even more significance in such exceptional quality. Of great significance also for collectors of "Number Ones" of the world. Certs. Brandon, Philatelic Foundation N.Y. and A. Diena. S.G. 1 = £ 28,000.
