Lot: 39

1889 Rebellion. July 15, cover to Saint Thomas bearing negative "Haiti/Postes/Cap Haitien" handstamp and corresponding c.d.s. (this seems to have been used, in mid July 1889, with its year erroneously indicating "88" instead of "89)", together with French paquebot "Ligne F/Paq. Fr. N° 1" octagonal datestamp alongside, rated "15" on arrival. This provisional negative handstamp was used as a result of a shortage of stamps during the short existence of a revolutionary government formed by General Hippolite. A fine example of this scarce postmark. Ex Borromeo d'Adda.
