Birmingham Canal Navigations. One subdivided share of £71, 27. September 1844. #4933. The company was established in 1794 as a merger of several canals in the Birmingham area. It owned a network of canals connecting Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and the eastern part of the Black Country. It was controlled by the London & North Western Railway. At its peak, it contained about 160 miles (257 km) of canals. Today it is still used by tourist and residential narrow boats. Vignette copperplate print with allegories and Neptun and Vulcanus.
