It was established in 1863 by a Sovereign Decree passed by Prince Charles III for building and operating the bath and the casino of Monaco. In 1895, it was changed into an SA. The family Grimaldi and the principality of Monaco each own 35%. Today the SBM is Monaco's biggest employer owning and operating the most important establishments in the tourism industry including the Opéra de Monaco, the Casino Monte Carlo and the Hôtel de Paris.
