Bank of the United States. 6%-Bond £100 or F 2‘530, Paris, 1. January 1840, Nr. 545. At the end of 1839, the Bank of the United States was in strong need of additional funds. After difficult discussions, the banking House Rothschild in London and Paris issued a bond for the Bank of the United States for a total of F 22.8 Mio. at 92% with a commission of 2% (B.Gille: Histoire de la Maison Rothschild I). A deposit of $5 Mio Bonds of the States of Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Indian, Illinois and Michigan guaranteed this bond. After the Bank of the United States default in 1841, this guarantee was used for indemnifying the owners of these Bonds. There are approximately fifty stamps showing each yearly distribution of the guarantee until 1889. Rare bond documenting the important business relationship between Rothschild and the Bank of the United States. Many tears and missing pieces, repaired. Good.
