Panama Rail Road Company. Certificate for 4 Shares. New York, 25. October 1869. Nr. 15221.This company built and operated the highly profitable Panama railroad. From the mid of the 1850s, it transported the enormous masses of fortune seekers and travellers between the East Coast to California over the Central American Isthmus. The shareholders probably made their biggest profit when Ferdinand de Lesseps and his newly formed Panama Canal Company bought the Panama Railroad. Most of the Shares were cancelled and later destroyed. VF.
