The Rio de Janeiro Telephone Company was founded in 1907 under the laws of the State of Maine, USA. The company owned the entire share capital of the Brazilianische Electricitats-Gesellschaft, a German company, which owned the telephone concession granted by the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The Rio de Janeiro Telephone Company was dissolved in 1911 when the shares of the Brazilianische Electricitats-Gesellschaft became the property of the Rio de Janeiro Tramway, Light and Power Company.
