Compagnie Internationale Pirelli. Une action de 500 Francs, Bruxelles, 23. September 1920. Nr. 24304. Pirelli is among the world's leaders in tire and cable manufacturing, and is one of the largest companies in Italy. In 1872, Giovanni Battista Pirelli formed the company Pirelli & C. for the production of rubber articles. Pirelli began the manufacture of insulated telegraph cables and in 1879 had developed the technology to produce underwater telegraph cables. In 1890, pneumatic bicycle tires rolled off the production line and were followed in 1900 by the company's first car tires. The famous "Cinturato radial" left a decisive mark in the history of tires. After WWI, Pirelli & C. revolutionized its holding structure. Italian operations were grouped under the name Società Italiana Pirelli and this Compagnie Internationale Pirelli SA, incorporated in Brussels, managed all international operations. This strategic decision resulted in this important early share. According to the news, this strategic move will soon be followed by Fiat - only hundred years later. EF.
