Auction: SW1009B - The Collector's Series - Latin America
Lot: 1118
1921, "VALOR 30 Ctvos - S.C.A.T.A." surcharge on 50c. green, two singles tied to November 1921 registered envelope (opened for display) from Barranquilla to Bogotá by "clock" datestamps, and compulsory 3c. pair for postage on front accompanied, on reverse, by 5c. (2) and 10c. registry stamp used to pay the registration fee, being carried at double rate, all tied by "Recomendados" datestamp of Bogotá. Minor staining and vertical crease, only impinging on the registry adhesive, are of no importance. One of only four registered covers known with provisional surcharges. It appears from this cover that in late 1921 SCADTA was not prepared for registered mail, so the corresponding fees were paid with national stamps and the cover handled by the Bogotá post office's registry department on arrival. A major gem of the provisional issues. Cert. Rendon. Colomphil 10; Scott C21.
