1862, Dec. 27. Small envelope from Santiago de Cuba to Paris, carried at the prepaid single letter rate with 1853 80c. carmine, wide margins all around, very slight soiling at base, tied by anchor lozenge with matching “Cuba” octagonal datestamp (Salles fig. 1364), and neat “Tampico” ‘cachet de ligne’ c.d.s. (Salles fig. 1313). Slight wrinkles and couple of staple holes, all clear of the adhesive and handstamps. A very rare and most attractive cover. Salles 1.364 d = RR, ‘pièce d’amateur’. Dallay 17.
