The Gardner Motor Company, Inc. Certificate 100 share at $ 100 each, New York, 8. December 1938. Nr. 15264. Gardner Motor Company was an automobile maker based in St. Louis Missouri between 1920 and 1931. Russell Gardner started his business before the turn of the century by building new Chevrolet bodies and wagons. By 1915 this had led to the complete assembly of Chevrolets in St. Louis. He was controlling all Chevrolet trade in states west of the Mississippi River. Russell Gardner sold his Chevrolet business to General Motors after his sons, Russel E. and Fred, entered the Navy during World War I. After the war, the three decided to build their own automobiles. The Gardner Motor Company was established to assemble mainly 6 and 8 cylinder cars from parts bought from suppliers. In early 1924 "Cannon Ball Baker" established a new mid-winter transcontinental record from New York to Los Angeles in 4 days, 17 hours, and 8 minutes in a Gardner. After 1927 business started to be unprofitable and in 1931 Gardner Motors ended all production. EF.
