Great Kruger Gold Mining Co. Certificate 50 shares, 9 January 1890. Nr. 1182. Left side vignette of the South-African politician Paul Kruger (1825–1904), known as Uncle Paul, was State President of the South African Republic (Transvaal). He gained international renown as the face of Boer resistance against the British during the South African or Second Boer War (1899–1902). The Krugerrand is named after him. In 1886 Gold was found in the Witwatersrand/Transvaal delete gold. This started a mining boom with many, mainly British, prospectors and adventurers flocking into the country.
