Società Romana delle Miniere di Ferro e sue Lavorazioni. Azione Scudi Romani 100, Roma, 30 April 1849. Nr. 3004. An unusual and early mining share. The purpose of the Company was the extraction of iron from the mines of Tolfa as well as other places in the papal state. The ironworks were situated in Tivoli and Terne. It also owned rights to extract iron in the regions of Umbria and Latio. The ironworks goes back to 1794 when Marquis Marcello Sciamanna and Paolo Patrizi Gazzoli received a concession from Cardinal Caradini to operated an ironwork with a capacity of 250 tons per year. Here they also minted coins. Their successors had to stop production due to a lack of liquidity. Soon afterwards the entrepreneur Giacomo Benucci founded this Company and built a new ironworks with eight modern furnaces. Dividends were never paid. Beautiful aquatint with an illustration of the works. Signature of Giacomo Benucci as President. VF.
